Valentine’s Day French Tip

This year I decided to put a cute and fun spin on the traditional French manicure, and spice it up with some bright pink accents! With a few small heart details, I think this Valentine’s Day French tip design is a perfect complement to any outfit you choose to wear on February 14th. The look is quite easy to achieve and the colors can be changed to suit your particular styles, tastes, and nail polish inventory. Read on to find out exactly how you can create this Valentine’s Day French tip for yourself!

The base color I used was Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear, in “Cotton Candy.” It’s a fairly light and sheer shade,  which I used mainly to create a slightly warm glow on my nails. The idea of this base color is to provide a bit of shine without taking away from the rest of the manicure. I painted this base color on 8 out of my 10 nails. I left one nail on each hand as an accent nail to be painted a bright pink.

I was really excited to try out this neon pink shade of polish that I received in an L.A. Colors gift set over the Christmas holidays. I felt that Valentine’s Day was the perfect opportunity to incorporate it into a manicure. The shade is L.A. Colors Color Craze in “Lightning,” and with two coats, it produces a bright and vibrant neon pink color. If you are recreating this look, feel free to use any pink or red color. However, the brighter, the better! The aim is to create a contrast between the colored accents and the white tips.

Paint your accent nails, as well as the tips of your other nails, with your bright pink or red polish. The tips should be painted fairly thick. On my nails, which are fairly short, the pink went nearly halfway down my nail.

Next you’ll need a white nail polish to paint the tips of each nail, over top of the pink. The pink will serve as an underline and an accent for the white tips. Therefore, the white line should be just slightly thicker than the pink one. You can paint any design on your accent nails, such as a simple white tip, but I chose to paint a large heart. It is Valentine’s Day, after all. The particular color or brand you use doesn’t matter, but I found that the consistency and brush of Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle in “White Tip” to be quite superb!

The picture below shows what my nails looked like after applying the white polish. Although this isn’t the full manicure I decided to do, I think it looks quite adorable and could serve as a perfect Valentine’s Day look for anyone that is looking to take a more simplistic approach to their nails.

To finish off my Valentine’s Day French Tip design, I used a black polish to add some small details. L.A. Colours Art Deco in “Black” is a skinny bottle with a long, thin brush, specifically designed for painting nail art and details. I painted one small heart in the middle of each French tip. On my accent nails, I created a border made of dots around the white heart. I applied one coat of top coat to seal the design, and my Valentine’s Day French Tip was complete!
